The Mediator

Meet Marissa Chen, J.D.

A law-trained mediator who believes that most disputes are, at heart, a failure of understanding, and that understanding can be rebuilt.

Law-trained mediator

Marissa Chen is the founder of Chen Mediation, a private practice devoted to helping people resolve important disputes with dignity, privacy, and confidence. She is a law-trained mediator, and she brings the discipline of a legal education to a role that is, at its core, deeply human.

Her focus spans the matters where the stakes are high and the relationships are worth protecting: family and divorce, parenting, business and partnership disputes, and civil disagreements. Across all of them, her conviction is the same. People rarely need more conflict. They need a structured, neutral space in which to be understood and to make sound decisions together.

Marissa built the practice to be intentionally boutique. That means unhurried attention, careful preparation, and a process shaped around each client rather than a crowded calendar. It is the standard of care that a significant decision deserves.

Approach

How Chen Mediation works

The method is simple to describe and demanding to do well. It begins with listening: understanding what each person actually needs, beneath what they say they want. From there, the work is to organize the issues, surface options, and help people move, step by step, toward terms they can genuinely accept.

Nothing is rushed, and nothing is imposed. The goal is never to declare a winner. It is to help everyone leave with clarity about what was decided and confidence in how it was reached. Where a matter would benefit from independent legal counsel, that is encouraged, openly and early.

Resolution through understanding is not a slogan. It is a method, and it is the whole of the work.
